from occurring again. In this case, the communications problems centered around an airline, a confusing chain of command and 35 tons of raw fish.
In this situation, the person works in the coordination center tower for Delta Airlines. This person (who well call the boss) is responsible for overseeing cargo and ensuring
everyone works to make sure the cargo gets from point A to point B with a minimum amount of trouble. One day,
however, a Delta flight left Atlanta, Ga. With a cargo hold filled with 35,000 pounds of raw fish. This would not have been problem, except that perishables should have
been removed before the plane took off. When the flight arrived at the destination, the fish had spoiled, with the crew on the arrival end treated to a nasty and
smelly surprise. The question here is, whose responsibility was the fish? Technically, the boss
is overall responsible for ensuring everything gets done (and ensures that his employees dont leave dead fish in the cargo hold). But in terms of the chain of command, the
flight manager is the person of record, who needed to ensure that all perishables were removed from the plane before it took off. The next person in the chain of
command would be the aircraft load agent, followed by the lead gate agent, the concourse supervisor and concourse manager - all of whom are overseen by the boss.
