trust that is placed by a client in the services of a financial institution can make or break that institutions reputation. Very simply, if a client doesnt have trust in
the institution, he or she will pull the money out and send it elsewhere. In our paper, this is what has happened with
a fictitious financial institution in the UK. The student has been asked to take on the role of compliance officer for this particular organization, one that has suffered from many
internal problems during the past year. The one main problem is that the business units, the ones in business to help were without an operations director, with the result being
that the company (and its units) experienced many operational difficulties. Another main problem is that the organization introduced new group standards for customer
acceptance -- and these have not proven to be very popular in the marketplace. The standards have had a negative impact on services offered to the customers, meaning an increase
in customer complaints -- and falling of goodwill toward the bank in question. Added to all of this is that staff morale has
fallen, with the result being staff turnover that has increased 25 percent during the past year. Unfortunately, what this financial institution is facing
is something that isnt uncommon in most businesses. Operational difficulties without strong leadership can end up creating some loose ends among not only employees but on business units as a
whole. Introducing new standards to the marketplace without checking with what the marketplace wants (or is willing to handle) is also detrimental -- as this institution has learned, it can
