Nor is offshoring going away any time soon. For example, in late 2008, a survey among global information technology companies earning $5
billion in revenue and above noted that one in four IT jobs would move offshore in 2010 (Thibodeau, 2008). This is an issue, therefore, that will be around for awhile.
Corporate America has been pretty emphatic about the benefits, at least financially, of offshoring - and most of the benefits refer to cost
savings. One study points out that firms offsoring technology jobs reported greater earnings and operating cash flows (Dunn et al, 2009). The survey also pointed to the fact that this
increases, as the offshoring arrangement increases (Dunn et al, 2009). There are disadvantages to offshoring as well - they include distance and
isolation, leading to a lack of familiarity with both U.S. legacy systems and practices (Cornell, 2009). Language and communication issues can also be an issue, especially in those countries in
which English is a second language (Cornell, 2009). There is also a lack of legal redress in the event of difficulties, as well as potential loss of loyalty from the
remaining U.S. staff (Cornell, 2009). From an economic standpoint, offshoring does (or does not) make sense, depending on whether ones version of
