What is the best software and/or information system for various units and departments in a company? The answer to this is NOT "one-size-fits all,"
namely because different units in a company perform different functions. The answer, therefore, is that the best software or information system for various units is two-pronged. First, it needs to
assist that particular unit in its core activities. Second, for maximum efficiency, it needs to blend into a seamless system encompassing the entire company, such as an enterprise resource system
or ERP (Definition of ERP, 2010). The accounting department, for example, is likely going to use either Peachtree or Intuits Quickbooks (if
its a smaller business that is, though both do have more powerful software for larger companies). This is because the software should be able to meet a companys tax reporting,
invoicing and payroll needs, as well as basic accounting features required to monitor sales and expenses (Selecting accounting software, 2001). There are
other considerations when it comes to accounting information technology and applications. Such a software should be able to help the bookkeepers and management accountants crunch numbers and develop reports that
the financial accountants would be able to examine and use for strategic discussions with the executive staff. This means that the software and applications should have the ability to make
