it comes to finding and retaining a mate. McDaniel and Tepperman in their book, Close Relationships: An Introduction to the Sociology of Families, illustrate what these phases are. The premarital
stage, according to Tepperman and McDaniel, is that of sexual advertisement. The greater amount of advertisement, the more possibilities are generated. At least that seems to be the theory. So,
for example, Michael, because he would like to find someone to date, begins to take more time selecting the clothes that he wears, where he is seen, and how he
fixes his hair. He may begin to work out so that he can appear physically fit. In essence, then, he is preparing himself to enter the dating game. He wants
to make himself as physically attractive to women as possible, so that he has time to advertise the other attractive characteristics about his personality. Likewise, Ann will do many of
the same preparations. She will take more time with her hair, nails and physical appearance. She may go on a diet, read relationship books that might give her some additional
strategies as far as where to meet quality people, or how to remain safe while meeting new people. THE HISTORY OF DATING Couples find one another in many ways.
The primary reason for dating, though it is strictly on a subconscious and biological level, is to find and obtain a mate for the purpose of reproduction. In human beings,
however, reproduction with the idea of producing offspring is not always the end result. However, obtaining and keeping a mate often is the goal. Ann and Michael may meet
