social workers primarily to make a difference. Unfortunately, though, sometimes the reality of the job can make social workers forget, from time
to time, why they decided to enter the particular field. Overextended days, huge client caseloads and sometimes impossible to deal with clients can end up discouraging even the most stalwart
social worker. What happens if these emotions remain unchecked is that the social worker ends up leaving the field and going into something that is less stressful, more lucrative and
yet still deals with people. Its important for social work agencies to realize that this is a problem and to initiate ways
to motivate social workers not only to stay on their jobs, but to stay excited and motivated about their work. This is not an easy task, as there are very
few specific motivational theories that address the needs of social workers, or address the needs of anyone in public service, for that matter.
In this paper, well examine this dilemma. Well focus on social work as a career and the need for models to help motivate social workers. Well discuss some employment
motivation theories, and well try to tie these to social worker concerns and needs. Then well analyze if there are any other effective theories out there that could provide some
