then that tension and social repression exploded in the 1960s. Vietnam, civil rights, the sexual revolution and rock n roll were some of the social fare which was heaped on
Americans plates. Art, reflecting life, tended to depict those things that were foremost on everyones minds. Given this, then, there were many extraordinary films which were made in the 1960s
which reflected these issues. At the end of all the struggle of the sixties, it can be said that the nation came out of it with many major achievements.
The civil rights movement was in full swing, a dynamic young president had a bold vision for the world, and man was reaching for the stars with his rockets. However,
the road to success was paved with loads of regrets. There were anti-war demonstrations, lack of respect for authority figures, political assassinations, and riots in the inner cities.
A movie that came on the cusp of the sixties was actually made in 1957, but already there can be seen elements of the same types of questions which were
beginning to arise in the minds of most Americans. The movie 12 Angry Men, starring Jimmy Stewart was dynamically about racism and integrity of the justice system. This movie tells
the story of twelve men (all stereotypical white and middle class) who by luck of the draw are brought together to deliberate the case. It seems at first that it
is an open and shut murder case, but then, as the deliberations wear on, it becomes evident that the trial is not of the scared minority teenager in the courtroom,
