during the last 10 years, Islam as well. But the United States, no doubt, is a melting pot of different religions and cultures, with one of those religions involving Sikhism.
Sikhs are highly visible, with their long beards and turbans. Though they may seem somewhat exotic and strange on the surface, Sikhs are driven by the idea that we all
have the divine spark within, and that the goal of any lifetime is to listen to that spark. As such, Sikhs believe that clean living and service to others are
keys to reaching that particular spark that is within. Defined as "disciple" in the Punjabi language of India (Sikhism got its start centuries
ago in the Punjab region of India), Sikhs follow the teachings and writings of the Ten Sikh Gurus (Introduction to Sikhism, 2012). The main philosophies of Sikhism include that there
is only one God, and is the same God for all people and religions; that the soul goes through a variety of births and deaths before reaching a human form,
with the goal of life being to live well so that one may eventually merge with God, and that the path to a wholesome life is earn an honest living,
while avoiding temptation and sin (Introduction to Sikhism, 2012). Another important part of Sikhism is service to others - a Sikh is always willing to lend a hand to help
someone else, which is highly refreshing in todays world in which individuals are very self-centered. Sikhism promotes the belief that all people
