dominated countries and regions of the world. As such, they calim that this use of Sharia law is why they have the lowest crime rates of any of the other
countries. Is it all Sharia that deters the crime in these countries? Could Sharia law be a way of controlling the continuing climbing rate of crime in the United States?
Sharia law, according to Souryal in his article, The Role of Shariah Law in deterring criminality in Saudi Arabia, states that the Shariah law
is based upon the teachings found in the Koran and from the Sunna. In this tradition, offenses are met with only one punishment: death. More than a law for keeping
the peace, the Shariah is a religious code for living which has been incorporated in most Muslim dominated areas as law. Shariah governs the day to day actions from everything
from banking to medical procedures. Some of the penalties for disobeying Shariah law can include stoning, the severing of a limb, whipping, or beheading. THE RELATIONSHIP OF CRIME TO LAW
