The French Revolution was underway. And, in South Africa, Shaka Zulu would make the name of the Zulu tribe one that would be known around the world. To say
that Shaka Zulu came from humble beginnings would be an understatement. His mother and he led a miserable existence, to say the least, for the first twenty years of Shakas
life. The Zulu tribe in Africa was only one of a handful of small tribes scattered throughout the dark continent at the time. His father was a sick and
dying man when Shaka was born, out of wedlock. The condition of being born out of wedlock was called shaka and this was more than likely where his mother obtained
the name. Translated, this name means parasite or loosely translated, bastard. Considered lower caste, Shakas mother was held in little regard. His mother left the tribe to go back
to her tribe, but they treated her worse than the Zulus had. So, with her small child, she returned to the Zulu tribe. Life with the Zulus by all accounts
was miserable for the both of them. Outsiders and never quite accepted by either tribe, Shaka must have been constantly the scapegoat for nearly everything. This type of psychological abuse
would mold him into the fierce and merciless warrior he would become. A young man in his twenties, he was drafted into the army of the Mtetwa
tribe where he began to distinguish himself(Knight1999). For the next six years he would begin to find an outlet for what had to be an incredible amount of rage built
up from his earlier abuses. Having a place to focus this anger resulted in distinguishing him from the other recruits. Shaka soon must have realized that his prowess on the
