the American women are tired of militant feminism. This becomes glaringly obvious in Susan Estrichs book, Sex and Power, and Laura Flanders book, BushWomen: Tales of a Cynical Species.
No more than a few pages into Susan Estrichs book one is reminded of the clinched fists raised in the air of a distant era.
But does anyone really WANT to burn their bra anymore? This is one of the main questions that Estrich seems to ask in her book. What seems to be more
to the point is how women have decided to take a different tact: play the games the big boys play, and play it better. This. This is the only way
to eventually win the game, or at least get a ticket to it. Estrichs book is irritating and waffles from one extreme to the other,
but it seems that if one takes the time to fry away the chaff that there are some interesting observations to be found. For example she descries the lack of
female executives in key positions in corporate America. She illustrates the interesting fact that there are more women than men in the United States and yet this demographic is not
represented in US business. Of course, this begs the question: did the women want that sort of position? Surely, and not to negate their ability or ambition, some women did.
And they have. And they will. But, Estrich falls into the same trap that many feminists fall into, assuming that women do not want to raise a family, have children,
