role, either with a friend or toward a parent. However, simply brushing this action aside, many experts state, is only reinforcing a traditional stereotype of gender based aggression. Many experts
are now stating that while there may be some evidence to support statements that males are more aggressive than females, more evidence points toward nurture, rather than nature, as being
the more influential determinant of behavior between the sexes. Generally speaking, there are hormonal surges in young males that affect those areas of the brain which support aggressive actions. However,
these same types of areas are also present in females. While the testosterone is not as prevalent in the female as in the male, believing that females are not capable
of aggression is an assumption that is not being borne out by the science of the day. In CAT scans and PET scans of children who were diagnosed as being
socially aggressive, there was virtually no difference between the sexes, the amount of stimulation which was occurring in the aggressive areas of the brain, or the inclination to act on
their impulses. In other words, when a kid wanted to act out, they acted out. This would tend to show that nature plays only a small role in determining the
aggressive tendencies of human beings. Nature may lend triggering factors, such as personality glitches and proclivities, but most of the evidence now points more toward the environment, cultural and socio-economic,
that a person finds him/herself in. Consider that in many countries it is considered appropriate to beat ones wife. Male children who grow up witnessing the continued abuse of his
mother and sisters will internalize that this sort of behavior is accepted and expected of him. Likewise, he will more than likely be as abusive as his father was.
