Strategic planning can include, but is not limited to, understanding the product life cycle, marketing decision support systems and their impact, demographic and economic factors on the marketing plan and strategies and influences in consumer and buying decisions. A good strategy also has a backup plan for learning about the competition, refining objectives and providing analysis tools (such as a SWOT analysis). In this paper, well examine some of these strategic tools as they pertain to Serenitys 2Simple Soap, a soap that is developed for teenage girls and young women in their 20s who struggle with acne, but who dont want to use harsh acne-fighting chemicals on their skin. Product Life Cycle and Marketing Tools There are four parts to a product life cycle, and the marketing strategy is going to differ, based on what part of the cycle the product is in. The four stages are introduction, growth, maturity and decline. Many times, during the maturity and decline stage, the product can be repackaged, or improved, and the cycle starts over again. The 2Simple Soap is in the introductory stage - in other words, its just coming onto the market, its a new product and people generally arent familiar with it. During the introduction stage of a product life cycle, the marketing is focused on branding and quality level, while pricing is low to boost penetration and to build market share.
