changed, a world become different. In the space of a little less than two hours, the illusion of security harbored by most Americans was ripped to shreds, as 19 hijackers
commandeered four planes. Two were flown to New York City, where they were used as bombs to destroy the World Trade Center Towers - perhaps the most visible world-wide symbols
of the U.S. financial district. One flew south, to Washington D.C., where it ended up in the side of the Pentagon - the symbol of U.S. military might. Its hard
to say where the fourth plane might have ended up - the passengers ended up overpowering the hijackers and bringing the plane down in a Pennsylvania field. Intelligence has it,
however, that the destination of this plane was likely the Capital Building or the White House. That, of course, would have symbolized destruction of the American political system.
Though America was in shock that day - and for weeks and months afterward - and the world leaders sent their sympathies to the
United States, the administration of George W. Bush was hard at work, trying to fight what it now knew was a terrorist regime. More than two years after 9/11, even
with the attack fading, the results of the administration continue to be with us. The hunt is still on for Osama bin Laden who, according to many, engineered the terrorist
attack on U.S. soil. Homeland security measures have been stepped up, with many things initiated by the government in the interest of protecting citizens. But perhaps the latest salvo against
