Because much of Eastern Europe was under communist and socialist rule, the state pretty much owned everything, with little competition allowed. The
fall of communism during the late 1980s and early 1990s has changed things, however. As much of Eastern Europe emerges from Soviet rule and the communist way of thinking, more
opportunities are opening up for companies to enter such countries and do quite well. Although working in Eastern Europe does pose a challenge, it also provides many opportunities for countries
within Western nations to set up shop in some of the former Communist bloc, as people are hungry for certain products and services.
In this paper, we will investigate the possibility of introducing a mid- to large U.S. corporation that makes widgets into the Czech Republic. We selected the Czech Republic, because
out of the many Eastern European countries, this one seems to be moving more toward the idea of a free market economy and is very welcoming to both foreign business
and competition; something that is lacking in other Eastern European countries. This is not to say that the Czech Republic is an
easy country to do business in, however. No matter how strong the democratic leanings, it must be remembered that the Czech Republic was at one time a communist country -
