A Discussion about Leadership Styles Before analyzing his or her own leadership style, it might be helpful for the students to examine and present general leadership style models to help contrast his/her style with the general model. As can be expected, business theorists over the years have developed a great many leadership style models and have attempted to analyze which is the "best" model, depending on trends in business and human resources. Perhaps the best-known leadership model -- and certainly the oldest one in existence -- is the classical leadership model (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). The basis of the classical leadership model is production and in and profit at all costs, no matter how hard such a concept might be on the workers (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). Classical leaders tended to view the end as the ultimate goal, rather than focusing on the means to the end (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). For the classical leader, stability is the key to success, with change regarded as something that is disruptive in the workflow, and something that can lead to more errors and problems in getting results and stabilizing profit (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000).
