for everyone to see. Given this, then, security measures were developed to protect the consumer and the business from fraud. One of the best examples of an internet business
which has conquered the security problem is EBAY. EBAY is one of the largest online marketplaces, if not THE largest market place on the web today. Created in 1995, eBay
provided a massive online forum for the individual to buy and sell goods, services and products(Newsbytes 1999). Now, of course, untold millions of items are bought and sold through eBay.
Because of the nature of the internet, eBay conducts business on the local, national and international levels simultaneously. Basically, how eBay works is that sellers list articles that
they have for sale along with a short descriptive paragraph and the amount they are willing to sell the item for. The item is placed up for bid, in essence
an online auction. Buyers bid on the object for sale. These auctions can last for a day or so to take advantage of the varying time zones. Then, at the
end of the time, the person who has captured the bid is placed in touch with the seller and they arrange payment and delivery. However, there has been and
still is trouble in paradise, so to speak. The system that eBay uses right now is a way of ranking sellers as far as their reliability. This is based solely
