a female. Keeping the United Kingdom before her as almost a utopia (as Nigeria was under British rule at the time), Adah made it her goal to use the colonial
infrastructure and educational system to eventually study in the United Kingdom. But she has some things to overcome in Nigeria first. Her
mother and father dont want her to go to school because first, shes a girl and second, the family doesnt want to spend the money on her. Despite everything, she
takes the initiative to sneak off to school (causing some problems for her family in the meantime). The next challenge she
has to overcome is the death of her father, and her relocation to live with her mothers brother. She was permitted to stay in school, mainly because it would increase
her "value" as a prospective bride. The education was first-class, too. As a British colony, Adah made use of the system of European education to ensure she was learned and
intelligent. When the time came to marry, however, she avoided it time and again, still focused on her dream of going to
the United Kingdom. Ultimately, though, she realized that maybe the way to get to England was through her husband. Furthermore, she could obtain employment and save money to get them
both to the United Kingdom. When her husband is sent to the United Kingdom to study, Adah overcame her father-in-laws disgust
at the idea of a woman traveling (especially a woman with children). Adah then waited for her chance, then booked herself and her children on a first-class trip to England.
