Generally set in future worlds with settings and complete cultures constructed from scratch, these worlds can often be populated with creatures as diverse and bizarre as the authors mind to
conceive them. But what does Science Fiction portend for mankinds very real future? The answer to that depends on the movie one analyzes. A good example is the movie, Forbidden
Planet. This movie is loosely based on Shakespeares Tempest. The movie itself centers around the travels and troubles of Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira who have been living on
a desolate planet. A rescue team finally arrives lead by the dashing hero, Commander Adams. But, Dr. Morbius urges them to leave immediately, that their lives are in danger. That
dangers name is: Krell. His warnings prove prophetic when, one by one, members of Adams crew succumb to a grim, violent death. This movie speaks to genetic engineering, which has
already come to pass. Once thought of as existing only in science fiction novels and the movies, the idea of artificial intelligence has come to fruition. Already scientists have supposedly
created a computer that will react in fear when a threat is perceived. But does this make the machine superior to mankind? Does this mean that at some future appointment
in mankinds history, the machine will far exceed that most refined and sophisticated of all machines: the human brain? The movie AI by Spielberg seems to hint at just that.
In comparison to some science fiction films, this film shows the ability of mankind in the future to retain its ability to care and remain human. Many films today show
