general, poor communications leads to more than misunderstanding - it can lead to everything from loss of productivity to lawsuits. As a result, improving communication to all audiences, and understanding
those audiences, is important. Locker and Kienzler also point out the importance of audience analysis when it comes to message adaptation. One wouldnt,
for example, use soft, soothing music or pastel colors when trying to communicate the benefits of a razor blade to men. One would rely on bold colors and statements, as
well as loud music. By the same token, that soothing music and pastel colors would provide a great background for promoting a ladys razor blade.
But what happens if the same information needs to be distributed to several different audiences? In this particular case, were trying to present sales figures for managers, salespeople
and customers. The best way to design a presentation for multiple audience members with multiple agendas is to find commonality among the groups, then use that commonality around which to
base a presentation. In other words, identify the need, or needs, that several audiences share (Locker and Kienzler, 2008). For example, quarterly
sales information is likely going to consist of revenue as expenses. How would this be of use to the customers? If the customers understand that sales are slowing up, as
are revenues, the customer would be interested because the prices of the goods this company produces might go up. Quarterly sales would
also consist of background - in other words, why revenue is increasing or decreasing, while expenses are doing the same thing. For example, if the economy is in a recession,
