Wine-Dark Sea, outlines some of the gifts that Greece brought to the world and how the Grecian society and civilization influenced the history of mankind. Many books have been
written about Greek Society, so what makes Cahills book stand out? Cahill shows why it matters, how what the Greeks did then still affect societies and civilizations now. For example,
in chapter one of the book, entitled, The Warrior, How to Fight, one can easily see how modern warfare still draws upon many of the strategies that the Greek soldiers
used on the battlefield. The use of the phalanx move, for example, is still utilized by nearly every combat troop around the world, at some time or another. The classic
Trojan Horse has also been utilized in many ways, in many guises throughout the years; making the phrase looking a gift horse in the mouth a part of the popular
language. Cahill points out that one of the reasons that the Greeks had such an impact on the world was that they were intensely curious about all aspects of their
world. There was nothing that did not deserve serious inquiry. Not only did the Greek society have a curious nature, but they had the ability to back up this curiosity
with research and experiments. Most of their ability to accomplish this, to focus on such an endeavor that is not directly related to the immediate need to survive makes Cahills
