follow in the future. Effect of the External Environment Both the general and competitive environments have affected Ryanairs development and success, particularly during
the decade of the 1990s. Based in Ireland, Ryanair has been able to greatly benefit from being "at the right place at the right time," which apparently has been
the case for the airline since its relaunch in 1992. Economic growth in Ireland during the decade of the 1990s won the country
the nickname of the "Celtic Tiger." Since 1973, multinational organizations from around the world have chosen Ireland as a site favorable to business. Closely identified with the United
Kingdom yet fully separate from it, Ireland opted to join the European Monetary Union (EMU) when Britain elected to remain outside of it. For Ireland, the result was the
best of both worlds in times of strong growth. Ireland has immensely favorable policies designed to encourage business investment there, and it has
a well educated and motivated workforce. Long a center of education respected throughout the world, Ireland possesses many qualities that make it attractive as a business expansion site for
