Russia has endured troubling economic times since the dissolution of the USSR in 1992. Some would contend that today, however,
those troubling times could be considered largely over. Indeed, this contention would appear justified given that the country has experienced an average of four to six percent economic growth
for the fourth year in a row and the standard of living has improved by one to one and one-half times for the last three of those years (Gurova, 2003).
Other aspects of Russian economy, however, are not quite as positive. The fact that Russias exports, for example, remain restricted primarily to raw materials, materials whose prices are
determined mostly by those outside of Russia rather than within it (Gurova, 2003). Russias high dependence on exports, in fact, can be perceived as a weakness in Russias domestic
market (Gurova, 2003). Many contend, in fact, that over the years following the dissolution of the USSR Russia has only experienced economic growth when the world market was paying
higher for her raw materials. The state of Russias economy is, therefore, a very debatable topic and one which is dependent on a number of factors. The intent
of this paper is to explore those factors and to consider how they have changed since the end of World War II. One
of the primary driving forces of society is economics. The study of economics is the study of a variety of interrelated factors. Factors such as the unemployment rate,
inflation, trade structure and the domestic and foreign exchange, and the financial market are all factors which are carefully examined by economists. All play a role in the overall
