the novel Run Silent, Run Deep is a novel that was likely the first of its kind in relationship to dangers and adventures in a submarine. The novel takes place during WWII and is essentially a war novel that offers up images of American and Japanese fighters in the water, with a great deal of focus in Pearl Harbor. The following paper offers a report of the book. Run Silent, Run Deep by Edward Beach As mentioned, this book takes place during WWII and involves submarines. It involves the location of Pearl Harbor and speaks of the struggles of the Americans and the Japanese during this particular time. The primary character, and the narrator of the story, is Edward G. Richardson. He is the man who commands submarines. In the story the submarines that he commands are the S-16, the Walrus and the Eel. In the beginning of the story there is Richardson, in charge, and then a man named Jim Bledsoe. Bledsoe is a character who wanted to be a commander it seems, but yet failed tests so that he was not initially in charge of the S-16 as he desired. But, then this particular vessel leaves the hands of Richardson and he moves on to become the commander of the Walrus. At this point Bledsoe becomes the executive officer of the vessel. In relationship to adventures with the Walrus the men come in contact with a German u-boat as they are making their way towards Pearl Harbor.
