Texting has become a more and more prominent means of communication throughout the world. It is just one
more step towards instant communication. As opposed to a letter that might not be delivered to the recipient by the PO for days, the email that might arrive almost
instantly in our mailboxes but not be read for hours, or the instant message which is only instant as long as we are actually staring at our computer screens; texting
is immediate in most cases. Cell phones have become an indispensible part of our lives and now are almost regarded as an extension of one of our appendages.
We are seldom more than a few footsteps away from our cell phones and most of the time they are actually secured to our bodies. Texting, therefore, has become
the preferred means of communication for many people. As author Natalie Moore reveals in her online article "Rule of Thumbs: Love in the Age of Texting", however, there is
a whole etiquette associated with texting and, unfortunately, not all of us are as voiced in that etiquette as are others.
