in this seventies film as well. In Deliverance, four men find themselves in a natural setting and journey to find themselves in quite serious situations. The idea of freedom
exists in ones mind and tends to integrate with ones body as well. Freedom permeates the soul. In addition to filmmakers, other authors embrace the idea as well. In
Deliverance, four businessmen decide to rough it and this unfolds quite casually. Yet, their bravado does not pay off. The men endure brutalization to some extent. It is the man
against nature theme that permeates this film but underlying that exists the theme of death. The idea that one can live forever or have life after death embraces perhaps a
hope that human beings may hold onto and artists, writers and poets understand that desperate attempt to grasp at immortality. Certainly, the fact that death impedes on this film as
a strong thematic element is not morbid or odd. It relates to the man against nature theme. In fact, one could say that the attempt to portray the
term human is most important. One can then look at a variety of elements. Life, death, nature and humanity and finally freedom supersede mans other concerns in daily life.
Before exploring philosophy in respect to freedom, a student writing on this subject must first draw a logical link between freedom and the man against nature theme. Man against
