took a stand and changed the face of American society. She sparked change and as such stands as one of the most powerful figures and most important figures in American
history. The following paper examines Rosa Parks, her life, and her accomplishments. Rosa Parks The student requesting this paper wishes to
nominate Rosa Parks, "a 20th-century figure whose work/artistic contributions can be classified in both the Age of Modernism and the Age of Pluralism for the 20th Century Genius Award." In
essence Rosa Parks needs to be described in a fashion that details how she was a woman for the modern age, an age wherein perhaps slavery was a thing of
the past and the modern America was something in the infant stages. She also needs to be illustrated as a powerful figure in relationship to a nation that was moving
towards a multicultural, and accepting of multicultural, society. As mentioned, Rosa Parks was a relatively average woman, although she was also
an African American woman who had perhaps long suffered oppression and inequality in the nation. She was "born Rosa Louise McCauley on Feb. 4, 1913, in Tuskegee to James McCauley,
a carpenter, and Leona Edwards McCauley, a teacher" (Montgomery Advertiser, 2008). When she was still rather young her father left and she ultimately found herself growing up on a farm
