the characters of Romeo and Juliet in very real and tangible ways as the characters develop and grow. The following paper examines the differences and similarities between Romeo and Juliet
as it involves their emotional state, their values, and sex. Romeo and Juliet: Emotional State In the very beginning of the play the viewer/reader sees that Romeo is
a very romantic young man whose real desire in life is to have a woman. He is not interested in politics or warfare and is simply a young man who
wants a woman. In the beginning he has lost a woman he loves, or supposedly loves, and so the viewer/reader gets the impression he may simply be a young man
who is more in love with the notion of love, and conquest, than he is with the actual woman. The following words from Romeo, illustrate how he feels, what his
emotional state is at around the time he meets Juliet: "Why, such is loves transgression. Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast, Which thou wilt propagate, to have
it prest With more of thine: this love that thou hast shown Doth add more grief to too much of mine own. Love is a smoke raised with the fume
of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers eyes; Being vexd a sea nourishd with lovers tears: What is it else? a madness most discreet, A choking gall and
a preserving sweet" (Shakespeare I i). One can perhaps argue that he is simple in his emotions. One can argue that he is only a young man desiring women
