as legacy, still lives on in many ways. Rome clearly lives on in many of the nations most powerful pieces of architecture, as seen in Washington, D.C.. But it also
lives on in many ways, obvious and subtle, through modern day entertainment. The following paper examines how Rome is represented in the HBO series, Rome, the film Da Vinci Code,
and Dan Berns song Rome. Rome as Perceived in the Modern World In the HBO series Rome one clearly sees a sense of history involving this powerful city in
history. It is a series that seems to wish to bring some historical accuracy to the series but yet it is also a very commercially driven series that relies heavily
on elements such as sexual relationships, deceit, and elements of drama that present the series much like a soap opera. It just so happens that Rome stands as the backdrop
to the drama. The makers of the series, however, have a desire to offer the viewer something of an understanding of the history of Rome during this time, indicating how
they desired to bring forward many Roman issues of the time such as "infighting, corruption, party lines and the struggle to define collective values" and also illustrate that humanity is
still essentially the same (HBO, 2007). In this series, therefore, it seems as though the image of Rome is one that is historical and defining values and heralding the wonder
of the individual, but also in presenting the viewer with an understanding of the timeless nature of Rome as it involves basic struggles of humanity. In the film, and
novel, The Da Vinci Code the story is set in modern times and revolves around ancient truths that have not really been revealed regarding Rome and its involvement in keeping
