women. Roman women were nothing more than wedded servants to their husbands, a reality that took shape by virtue of loveless arranged marriages.
The idea that men are entitled to inherent privileges in marriage, while women have no opportunity to earn their place in the same state of matrimony, is the clear
implication of how Roman women were deemed inconsequential in their own marriage. This harsh reality was not the worst of it, however, with domestic violence reflecting the extent to
which a husband might go to keep his wife in line. The man - who was looked upon as the ultimate decision-maker - ruled the family. There is no
question as to the distinctive roles played by both the man and the woman, inasmuch as all control was rendered to the husband. No other single person controlled all
aspects of the home like the male, including how the wife was treated and considered to be nothing more than property. Similar to many other like-minded societies, Romans looked
upon women as possessions to be treated in often a violent manner. What this indicates women with no decision-making status within their respective marriages were routinely subjected to spousal
abuse. For Hindu women, the dichotomy of gender inequity and support of varying religious doctrines cast them into a contradictory existence. For example, in the eyes of Hinduism, ones
