Mankinds history and prehistory is replete with the invention of extremely diverse tools, devices, and other aspects of the various cultures that evolved.
While some of these inventions ultimately died out in their use, others are still used today. Excellent examples are the catapult of Medieval times, aqueducts, and paved Roman
roads which facilitated the Roman conquest of much of the world. Each of these inventions evolved at distinct times and served distinct uses. Each is still used in
a more evolved form today. Many of mankinds inventions evolved as weapons of war. This was certainly the
case in Rome. Consider, for example, catapults. Catapults were a technical mechanism used in medieval times as weapons of war. Interestingly, catapults are still used today in
much more modern applications than they were originally designed for. Catapults of yesteryear consisted of a rather simplistic mechanical design yet, despite that fact, they operated in a precise and
predictable way. The catapults that are used today are based on those same basic mechanisms and operational premises. In medieval times catapults
