Today the community has become desensitised to the risks; the initial investment in public awareness has reduced leaving the community more complacent than ever. Despite this there is also a
greater ability to control the spread of the disease, testing is available and those with the disease may be seen to have a moral responsibility to ensure they do not
pass it on. Unfortunate not all HIV positive patients will take this view some will be careless nit realising or wanting to realise the implication of their actions when not
practices safe sex, other will take an aggressive stance against safe sex due to their psychological position. Rietmeijer (2006) argues that counselling to help the patient adjust their own
behaviour with the use of rogerian therapy can be of value, For the counsellor there are duel issues to be considered, there are the needs of the patient, diagnosed
with a condition that may mean major changes in their lifestyle either immediately or at some point in the future, as well as a possible lifetime of drug regimes, as
well as the public health issues. One approach that may be seen as applicable that will help protect public health as well as the patient is the rogerian approach. This
can be combined with different approaches to public health, such as the biomedical model, the behavioural model and the socio-environmental model. The biomedical model illustrates the idea of health with
the absence of disease or any disorders, the behavioural model looks at health within the idea of diseases and disorders in absentia (Labonte and Thompson, 1993). The socio-environmental model
