whose poems sometimes evoke similar feelings in a reader, and at other times are completely dissimilar. This paper argues four different points: first, that the two men are clearly identified
with a specific region of the country; second, that their poems sometimes raise similar feelings in a reader; third, that their poems sometimes raise completely different feelings in a reader;
and finally, that their masterful use of imagery is what makes their work unforgettable. Discussion Regional poetry: When one speaks of literature, terms like "Southern writer" and similar regional labels
may appear. Southern writers include people like William Faulkner and Flannery OConnor and their works are very specific as to place: Faulkners barn burner, Abner Snopes, would not work in
any other region of the country and its only in the South that a monster like Emily could exist. When writers become identified with regions in this way, its often
because they are able to evoke images of the place for their readers. So it is with Carl Sandburg and Robert Frost. (As an aside, Frost and Sandburg knew each
other, but while Sandburg admired Frost and liked him, those feelings were not returned. Upon hearing Sandburg at a performance in Michigan, Frost sneered: "His mandolin pleased some people, his
poetry a very few and his infantile talk none" (Liukkonen)). Sandburg is associated with the "Chicago Renaissance"; other well-known poets of the movement are Vachel Lindsay and Edgar Lee Masters,
