were penned while he was in high school (Merriman). Through poetry, Frost was able to combine his love of nature with his insightful observations, which served to memorialize the "rural
landscape, vernacular, culture of people of New England" (Merriman). Although Frost is closely associated with New England, he was actually born in San Francisco and spent his early childhood in
California (Merriman). After his fathers death, the family relocated in Massachusetts, which was where his father was born and wished to be buried. Frost sunk roots into the region that
are clearly evident in his verse. In poems such as "The Oven Bird," Frost captures the essence of a glimpse of nature, in this case, the song of a "Loud...mid-summer...mid-wood
bird" (line 2). Frost, as natures interpreter, tells his readers that the bird sings of the passage of time, as "Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten" (line 5).
With images of pear and cherry blossoms coming down in showers, Frost uses nature to describe the sorrow and the beauty of the passage of the seasons, which mirror the
way that one stage of life passes into the next. As this suggests, Frosts poems drawn upon nature but they speak eloquently of his insights into human life, its sorrow
and its joys. This quality of Frosts poetry is exemplified by his poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." In this work, Frost captures the beauty, the stillness
and the serenity of watching rural woods during a snow storm, and how the snow builds up, making the woods "lovely, dark and deep" (line 13). The narrator is clearly
