and incredibly, though softly it would seem, ornate and reminiscent of the ancient architecture of the Romans. The following paper examines and analyzes the architecture of Robert Adam.
Robert Adam During Adams life time, when he was powerful and working in England, there was a clear sense of architecture that ventured
back in time to the style of the ancient Romans and their style of architecture. It was a unique revival and one that Adam was involved in as it related
to remodeling and creating new spaces. One of the most famous of his works is the interior, and especially the library, at Kenwood House in London. One critic notes the
following in regard to his work and his importance, and style at the time: "In England, such investigations helped support a revival of Roman forms and spatial configurations in interior
design, of which Robert Adam...was the leader" (Roth, 2006; 446). Roth (2006) further indicates how Adam based his library, at Kenwood House, on Roman rooms which is clearly evident though
his use of columns which set the entrance and screen the room to an extent. Roth (2006) further notes that, "Even Adams delicate decoration is inspired by Pompeiian prototypes, but
with the flat, painted Roman designs being translated into low-relief carved plaster, and the atmosphere of the whole room elevated by lighter, pastel colors" (Roth, 2006; 446).
