Either of the two companies can be seen as being attractive places to work. Introduction Rite Aid is a $15.8 billion company currently leading its industry in rate of growth. That growth is deceptive given Rite Aids history, but it also is promising in that current management is sound. Nortel Networks is a $10.5 billion company now, far less than revenues prior to the fallout of the technology sector in 2000. Each company has had its problems in the past, but each also appears to be recovering from them quite well. Rite Aid The nations third-largest drug chain behind CVS and Walgreens, operating more than 3,400 stores in thirty eastern, southern, and western states. Rite Aid has the distinction of being the first in the recent wave of corporate accounting scandals. Both 1998 and 1999 annual reports were restated in February 2000, more than negating $100 million increase in revenues with a cool $1 billion cumulative loss that never quite showed up in audits. One analyst has commented that corporate governance at Rite Aid under the former CEO was "Circa 1960" (Rite Aid hasnt treated its real ills yet, 1999; p. 46). By the time the board moved against the CEO, "the companys stock was decimated, the SEC was reviewing its accounting, shareholder suits were piling up, and its banks were demanding more aggressive action" (Rite Aid hasnt treated its real ills yet, 1999; p. 46). ...
