Though the activities associated with the practice of risk management are the same regardless of the environment in which risk assessment is accomplished, approach to and use of the information can vary significantly between corporate and governmental organizations. Each type of organization has different goals and different constraints; each faces different pressures that may be unknown to the other. The military also has an advantage of absolute commitment for a specific period of time, an advantage that the private sector will never know. These basic differences in form and mandate result in several fundamental differences in the way that corporate and military entities use risk management within their organizations.
