of ringiseido means decision-making by consensus (Ala and Cordeiro, 1999). It is based on the collective or group orientation in Japan. It allows everyone to participate in decision making. The
ringi decision making process refers to the application of the concept and philosophy of ringiseido (Ala and Cordeiro, 1999). It is consensus decision making at its highest and has been
used in government as well as business organizations in Japan. Consensus is defined as an agreement by all persons. In this model, everyone is satisfied with the decision that is
ultimately made (Ala and Cordeiro, 1999). Dyck and Neubert (2010) explain there are four steps in this process. First, the need for a decision to be made about something is
informally told to a member of the organization (Dyck and Neubert, 2010). A formal written memo is then circulated through the organization (Dyck and Neubert, 2010). The memo discusses the
issue to be decided and includes recommended decision (Ala and Cordeiro, 1999). Next, discussion occurs in response to the memo. Each person can offer their opinions and approve or reject
the recommended decision a decision (Ala and Cordeiro, 1999). When the decision has been agreed upon, the final decision is recorded and approved by each person in the group (Dyck
and Neubert, 2010). It takes a very long time which is not very efficient. The benefit is that once the decision is made, it will be implemented because everyone
