twin, the narrator, is Amanda and she seems vehement about hating her sister and seeing her sister but yet at the end of the story assumes her role, exchanging positions with her twin, both continuing in life. The following paper examines how and why Amanda give in and allows herself to be "swallowed by her genetic double" (Richter). The paper illustrates that Amanda give in because she has always existed with her genetic double, always swallowed by that double for it is Amanda, despite the fact she sees her sister differently than herself. It is also the same for her sister Samantha. Richters Twin Study As mentioned, this story is about twins, identical twins. They come together, meeting again, every four years to be part of a twin research. Amanda dreads this because she despises her sister but yet also fears being swallowed by her, despite the level of comfort it brings as well. She and Samantha, it seems, go out of their way to be different than each other because they struggle to find their own identity. But, at the same time they know each other as themselves and perhaps even live entirely different lives because those are two parts of the whole. Amanda gives in, and takes on the persona of Samantha, and Samantha eagerly takes on the persona of Amanda because they seem to be the same. There are hints of this as Amanda, in the beginning, indicates how much she cant stand seeing her sister and how they are so different ("inside, in our brains, souls, and hearts, we werent the same"), yet also stating, "knew what Samantha was going to say before she said it, and I knew which boys shed like before she met them, and we always got up at ...
