liberties that raged throughout the United States during the decade of the 1960s. The conflict surrounding the oppression of the black race was not limited to American shores, however,
for the brothers of African-Americans were at the same time embroiled in a struggle of their own in the homeland, a struggle that has spanned a century and left a
continent torn asunder. Nigeria, a vast land situated along the delta of Africas Niger River, is home to a diverse landscape that consists of rain forests, swamp lands and arid

that has traditionally held much promise, but it is also a land that has traditionally undergone much turmoil and dissention. Beginning in the late nineteenth century, European missionaries began to
arrive on Africas shores and to begin the spread of Christianity throughout the land. This missionary work resulted in Nigeria coming under the absolute rule of the country of
Britain. Stripped of their traditional customs and tribal rituals, the many diverse cultures that made up the people of Nigeria were categorized into regions under this new system of
