reasoned assessments. The first step in critical analysis is to provide a description of the message that is being analyzed. This description provides the reader with an understanding of
the argument being addressed or the message that was presented and allows for a characterization of the information. In other words, when a message is presented, it may involve
a number of themes or specific characteristics that are related to the person presenting the message. This description, then, gives enough detail to inform a secondary reader or listener
about the nature of the message under analysis. The second kind of critical thinking or step in the process of critical analysis is the analytical process, the actual analysis of
the message presented. This analysis has to take on a kind of systematic process, which allows for the breaking down of components of the message to discover and identify
particular messages or parts of the message that are important. The analytical process allows for the separation of the different elements of a message in order to consider their
impact on the audience. The primary purpose of this kind of critical thinking is to break down the argument or statement into parts and define the purpose of these
messages in order to assess their interdependence. For example, when it is said that "9 out of 10 dentists surveyed prefer
