tryst that ends up happily for everyone connected with it. It is beautiful, charming and - although it sounds strange to say so - sweet. The original is told in
the third person by an unseen narrator. This version is rewritten from Calixtas point of view, in an attempt to understand why she made love with Alc?e during the storm.
Discussion The story: I knew what would happen the moment he stepped into the house. Its almost as if it were meant to happen: the storm came on the day
when no one but me was at home: Bobin?t had taken Bibi with him to town, saying "Let me get him out from under yo feet, Calixta," in that way
he has, and Sylvie had worked the day before. When I saw him come riding into the yard I was afraid and nervous and overjoyed all at once. He would
have drowned out there, and so it was only right that I invite him into the house. We were both nervous, I saw that in a heartbeat, but we were
glad to see each other too. When the lightning flashed I jumped in fright, and he held me and pulled me close, and I knew, and I went willingly, happily
to my bedroom and pulled him down on the clean white sheets. He was tender and gentle but fierce and passionate, so unlike Bobin?t that he took my breath away.
