Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 5 page paper that summarizes study results concerned with the reliability and validity of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), which is a tool that was originally developed in order to evaluate "symptoms and physical disability...for people with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and/or knee" (McConnell, Kolopack and Davis 453). The study that is discussed is basically an extensive literature review on this topic. No additional sources cited.

developed in order to evaluate "symptoms and physical disability...for people with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and/or knee" (McConnell, Kolopack and Davis 453). The WOMAC evaluates the clinical importance of
changes in health status that occur as a result of therapeutic intervention. The WOMAC accesses 3 dimensions: pain, stiffness and physical function (McConnell, Kolopack and Davis 453). This
instrument employs a Lickert scale from 0 to 4, with the lower numbers indicating lower levels of the symptom or condition indicated in the associated question. Level of data
collected : This writer/tutor is not precisely sure what is meant by the phrase "level of data." However, the way that this question is worded suggests that it refers
to whether or not measures were evaluated directly, through experimentation, or indirectly, via reporting on the research of others. If this is the case, then the level of the data
is indirect since it comes from an extended literature review. Definitions within this study Internal consistency : Internal consistency reliability is defined by the researchers as a factor that
measures the degree to which items in a questionnaire that are designed to evaluate the same concept are related to each other (McConnell, Kolopack and Davis 454). Cronbachs alpha is
a measure of internal consistency. Items in an instrument are considered to have internal consistency, that is, similar constructs when Cronbachs alpha is equal somewhere around 0.80 (McConnell, Kolopack
and Davis 454). Test-retest reliability : This factor is established when the same questionnaire is given to the same respondent group at 2 different times, with the second occasion
occurring so that the phenomenon being evaluated will not have changed, but enough time will have elapsed that respondents find it difficult to recall precisely what answer they gave on
