University, it was brought to my attention that Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) are actively recruiting teachers specializing in science. As the MNPS is dedicated to an ethos of excellence
and dedication to students, this vision aligns with my own professional philosophy and desire to continue to develop professionally. My student teaching took place at Somewhere Elementary (or Middle
or High School) located in A Town in Tennessee, where I taught (indicate grade) science during the 2006-7 academic year. This was a rewarding experience that gave me direct teaching
experience and intricacies of classroom management. Having earned tutorial certification, for the past two years, I have also tutored students in both science and math. I will be graduating with
a Bachelor of Science/Arts (name your degree) in May 2007, Magna Cum Laude (if this is appropriate). I feel confident that my approach to teaching will fit in with the
MNPS, due to a shared dedication to excellence. In a science classroom that takes a constructivist approach to instruction, an approach that builds on students prior knowledge and interest,
teachers can foster an environment of genuine, active learning. A teacher promotes learning by providing students with the opportunity to select research topics and, thereby, establish personal meaning and also
learn in the manner that is most congruent with their personal learning style. As this indicates, my teaching style emphasizes facilitating active, hands-on learning on the part of students.
