to be around people that often. If these teachers of humanity could not really make people understand love and wisdom, could one conclude that love and wisdom are not transmittable?
Philosophy is, to me, one of the most important of all human undertakings. Because the human mind is uniquely structured to adapt to circumstances and to form habits, it
is almost as if the default state of life is one of unconscious repetitious action. Philosophy provides the means to continuously consciously examine ones life, so that one gains a
better sense of actual control and understanding of that life, and the world in which one lives. Defining philosophy purely as "the love of wisdom" is, as the
question suggests, fairly problematic, as both "love" and "wisdom" are fairly subjective concepts for which different people and cultures will have different understandings. What is more important than providing a
specific definition of these terms is that the instrument of philosophy and the act of practicing it, can help act as a bridge so that people with different understandings can
nevertheless come to understand and appreciate one anothers views. So, who are you? And how do you know that you exist? I mean," he continues, "how are you
different than a cow? After all, the cow too sleeps, eats, breaths and reproduces. Do you think capitalism allows you to develop and cultivate meaningful relationships with yourself and others?
I ask again, despite all of your so called achievement, what are you really reduced to in capitalism?" I agree completely that capitalism reduces humanity to a beast-like state.
