the company. Instead, it handled the matter so well that it has become a legendary case study in how to respond well to public concerns. This paper details the Johnson
& Johnson Tylenol crisis. Discussion Johnson & Johnson is one of the most trusted names in American business; the company is over 120 years old and began as a concern
that manufactured and distributed sterile medical supplies to nurses, doctors and hospitals, a new concept at the time they began (Johnson & Johnson, Our history, 2010). From that beginning, they
have expanded to become a world leader in personal care products such as shampoo and conditioner, as well as manufacturing baby care products (powders) and health care products like Neosporin
and Band-Aids; they also make feminine hygiene products, mouthwash and many similar goods. Among their line are several over-the-counter medicines including Sudafed, Motrin-and Tylenol (Johnson & Johnson, Consumer health products,
2010). Tylenol was in the headlines in 1982 in the worst possible way: an unknown person injected cyanide into the capsule form of Tylenol, killing seven unsuspecting people in
the Chicago area and throwing the entire country into a panic, since the poisoning was done so subtly that there was no way to tell if a bottle was tainted
