There are some who would argue that, for example, resources had little to do with the Souths loss of the war, and others who would claim that the South had far better military commanders than the North and it was only through a few lucky battles that the North won. It is, in other words, a war that still stands to be highly examined, analyzed, and researched. With that in mind the following paper examines how things like resources, military commanders, and political leadership played various roles in the final outcome of the Civil War. Resources, Military Commanders and Political Leadership and the Civil War In looking, first, at the political leadership of the two sides it is also important to understand why each side had their own political leaders and what they were ultimately fighting for. As one author notes, it was the issue of slavery that divided many political leaders on both sides, but yet the average individual had very little concern for the issues of slavery (Leidner, 2008). In the South the economic system relied heavily on slavery and thus the political leaders of the South were quite interested in this reality.
