PHILOSOPHY Resistance to evil is an integral part of my personal sense of ethics and social philosophy. When faced with the decision of following unjust laws, one must make
that personal decision based on their individual beliefs. For those faced with the laws of the Nazis, some followed them to save their families. Others fought. Perhaps
by fighting silently, as many did in saving the innocent Jewish people, they can fight the unjust and yet save their own lives at the same time. It must
be realized everything comes with great risk, and we must ask ourselves: how much risk are we willing to take? Nonviolent resistance relates to my own spirituality in that I
agree with the philosophy; however, it would not cause me to hesitate to use violence if faced with violence, in order to protect my life or those of my family.
Nonviolent resistance would not be possible in todays political climate. We are dealing with an unjust enemy who would tear us to pieces if they were faced
with nonviolence. The only thing they understand is violence. In order to deter them and their forces, they must be fought on their own territory, the name of
which is violence. In regarding the worlds political climate today, we are meeting this challenge correctly: with violence. The United States was attacked with tragic violence, and that
is what it will take to fight off our attackers. The tactics being used by the United States today in retaliation for the attack on the World Trade
Center Towers is indeed the correct response. While nonviolent resistance to evil is a wonderful philosophy and it would indeed be good to see the world come to that
