is one that may not see as much research, but clearly one of the most widely recognized conditions that sparks a great deal of concern in the society. It is
not a condition that is perhaps getting as much attention, research wise, as AIDS, but is a condition that is clearly being researched. The following paper presents an examination of
three different articles that illustrate the perspectives being taken towards ovarian cancer and research. Research on Ovarian Cancer In one article, an article that essentially illustrates the symptoms,
treatments, and how women feel after such treatments as surgery, the author notes that it is clearly one of the diseases that has very vague symptoms, that it is a
cancer that is often misunderstood and as such the research to really pinpoint the symptoms and find a way to accurately and consistently test for the cancer, is crucial. This
author indicates that the removal of the ovaries are often standard, in the UK, and that people can get chemotherapy and after surgery take particular drugs: "paclitaxel in combination with
a platinum compound (usually carboplatin or cisplatin) or platinum alone should be standard initial treatment for patients following surgery" (Woolley, 2007; 19). While this article does not discuss research, it
is an article that illustrates perhaps how little the medical community really knows about the condition. In trying to understand the condition there is a great deal of research
that is taking place in relationship to what causes ovarian cancer, or what contributes to the development of the cancer. For example, this particular researcher/writer read an article a year
or so ago which indicated that talcum powder may contribute to ovarian cancer when used in the genitalia area. Another article indicates that Hormone Replacement Therapy may well be the
