For
the first assignment of the two, the student needs to develop a methodology which is not only valid for the particular experiment to be carried out, but also has a
set of instructions and coded symbols which can easily be interpreted and used by successive researchers who are investigating the same topic. The experiments demonstrate the way in which properties
and symbols can be closely and accurately defined in a way which allows data to be recorded accurately, and the same parameters used in successive experiments to provide the same
level of accuracy. It is therefore necessary to construct a set of instructions which are straightforward but at the same time capable of encompassing all the different types of behaviour
which need to be observed.
In the example given, there are six different properties and the student must elaborate on each one to define it more accurately: as power is the ability
to make someone else do what you want, so consensus would be the ability to reach an agreement by negotiation, conflict would be the demonstration of antagonistic behaviour and so
